Public sector solution

The public sector continues to face challenges in meeting e-Government objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner. Fuelled by standards compliance and Government legislation, the public will increasingly demand access to the information they need at a time, place and in a manner of their choosing - and they will continue to expect it all for free.

Immediacy's public sector solution has been developed specifically to equip public sector organisations with tools to achieve standards compliant, easy-to-use and cost-effective content management. Although the Immediacy public sector solution has been designed with the flexibility and adaptability to keep pace with the developing e-Government initiatives and guidelines, it is centred on end-user ease-of-use and high levels of user adoption. We see little point in organisations implementing systems that are driven primarily by compliance and result in levels of complexity that are off-putting to the every-day users who are responsible for creating and managing content.

Guaranteed e-GIF compliance

Immediacy has worked extensively with public sector clients across local Authorities  and central Government, the Police Force, NHS trusts, Higher and Further Education, as well as with a number of highly experienced implementation partners who specialise in dealing with UK public sector needs.

As an established, UK-based company, our product development has been influenced strongly by experiences in operating in the UK market to serve the needs public sector organisations. This starts with continual reference to the e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) and, at a minimum, compliance with the highest level of requirements.

Providing a browser interface for access

Immediacy is a mature browser-based product that has had 10 years’ worth of development to achieve high degrees of usability within the typical limitations of the browser environment. This is illustrated by the steadily growing range of plug-in function modules created by ourselves and our experienced implementation partners to help public sector customers achieve higher levels of interaction, transactions and e-services via their web sites.

Multi-channel delivery

Beyond this, the fundamental essence of a content management system like Immediacy is the ability to separate content from presentation. This means that content put into Immediacy’s XML based repository can then be delivered via appropriate templates and style sheets to a wide range of channels and devices, including kiosks, smartphones/PDAs and digital television.

Using XML as the primary means for data integration

Immediacy is an XML based product with proven interoperability with a range of complementary software solutions. In addition, XSLT transformations may also be employed where appropriate to format content on import or export. Immediacy is committed to supporting new CSS and XSL standards as they appear.

Using Internet and World Wide Web standards

Immediacy takes standards compliance very seriously. Our CMS product is delivers  strongly on XHTML compliance and incorporates a built-in XHTML checker to help customers remain compliant throughout the content management process and lifecycle.

Using meta data for content management

Immediacy has complied with the prescribed e-Government Meta data Standard (e-GMS) since its inception and pays close attention to developments in this area. By way of an example, when the new Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary (IPSV) 'encoding scheme' was officially made available in April 2005, Immediacy had incorporated it into a new release within two weeks. The IPSV is supported by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and is being funded through the LAWs National Project. It merges the 3 previous meta data lists, GCL, LGCL and seamless UK into one list.
